HONDA TO LAUNCH CBR1000RR

We had posted earlier about the superbikes being launched, but due to the economic crisis were delayed. Suzuki has launched the Hayabusa & Intruder and now its Honda’s turn to unleash its superbikes in India. Honda plan to launch the CBR1000RR by March 2009.


“We will launch two models in super bike category with 800-1000 cc engines in this fiscal. Apart from this, we will also bring a new model in the mass market category before March next year.” said Honda General Manager Marketing N K Rattan. “To start with, we will establish our showrooms in the metros. Later on we will expand taking into account serviceability and other issues,” he added.

HYUNDAI UNVEILS R-DIESEL ENGINE

Hyundai Motor Company has released details of its brand new R-Engine Diesel powerplant. With a power output of 135 kW and 392 Nm of torque, the 2.0 litre version of the R-Engine outperforms any competitive offering by the 2.2 litre version. The R-Engine will enter production next year and will see its first application on the 2010 Tucson and Sonata models.

The R-Engine benefits from the third generation common rail system developed by Bosch whose piezo-electric injectors deliver fuel at 1800 bar for an unprecedented degree of accuracy and control.


It also features an electronic variable geometry turbocharger and an advanced engine control unit (air system-based charge control).

To achieve Euro 5 emission compliancy, the R is fitted with a close-coupled Diesel particulate filter plus highly efficient exhaust gas recirculation with by-pass valve.

The R-Engine brings Hyundai’s Diesel engine family fully up-to-date as it joins the U-Engine (1.1 litre, 1.4 litre and 1.6 litre), the A-Engine (2.5 litre) and S-Engine (3.0 litre V6).

MERCEDES TO LAUNCH AMG CARS

Mercedes Benz India, the Indian arm of Daimler of Germany, is set to launch its premium AMG cars in India next week. The German giant will also showcase its entire product range in the next quarter to reverse the trend after a 20% fall in growth in October sales.


He admitted that markets are expected to remain depressed during 2009, but said the company would not go for a single layoff in India though its parent is reportedly moving towards a shorter working week for 47,000 employees in Germany. “We have 450-500 people working in India. We are not going for any layoffs here,” he said.

During October-November, Mercedes saw its sales dip 20% year-on-year to 175 cars. However, during January-September, the company reported an impressive 60% growth by selling 3,141 cars against 2,491 cars in the year-earlier period.
